One of the keys to reducing flood losses is to properly manage new development in the floodplain. Communities that are participating in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) are required to adopt and enforce floodplain management regulations that satisfy the requirements of both the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
The East Central Intergovernmental Association (ECIA) and Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) will offer a free workshop for local floodplain management officials:
10:00am - 2:30pm on Tuesday, March 31st
ECIA Office Conference Room
7600 Commerce Park
Dubuque, Iowa
The workshop will cover floodplain mapping, regulatory standards and the administrative procedures that comprise an effective floodplain management program. These topics will be reviewed through presentations, discussions and practical exercises. Additional information can be found in the attached Workshop Flyer.
Registration: The workshop is FREE. However, everyone must be registered in advance. The deadline for registrations and cancellations is March 27th. To register, please use the following link: https://forms.gle/VVwGD1dd8YUzWw5E8
