● Example of coordination between DNR and a community to minimize risk and consequences of dam failure on downstream development.
About our Speakers:
Jonathan D. Garton, P.E.
Jon joined the Iowa Department of Natural Resources dam safety program in January of 2010 after 10 years in consulting engineering. He specialized in water resources including floodplain modeling, and dam evaluation and design. Jon graduated from Iowa State University in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. His current work for the DNR includes dam permitting, inspection, breach analysis, owner education and emergency action plan implementation.
Jon has served as recently served as President of the Association of State Dam Safety Officials and serves on national FEMA and DHS Dam Safety workgroups.
Casey Welty, P.E.
Casey joined the Iowa Department of Natural Resources dam safety program 8 years ago. He also worked for 4 years in consulting engineering. Casey graduated from Iowa State University in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. His current work for the DNR includes dam permitting, inspection, breach analysis, owner education and emergency action plan implementation.
